Mercy & Truth Earns 2026 HRSA Advancing HIT for Quality Award
For the second year in a row, we've been recognized nationally by the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) for the quality of care we provide. In 2026, we were honored with the HRSA Advancing Health Information Technology (Health IT) for Quality Award through HRSA's Community Health Quality Recognition (CHQR) program, based on our 2025 Uniform Data System (UDS) reporting. Last year, we were recognized with the 2025 High-Value Care Award.
This award recognizes community health centers that use technology to make care more connected and more personal, which is exactly what our team works toward every day. For our patients in Kansas City, Kansas and Shawnee, Kansas, it means being able to reach a provider through telehealth when getting in isn't easy. It means having your clinical information shared securely with the specialists and hospitals you rely on, so nothing falls through the cracks. And it means staying involved in your own care between visits, cared for by a team that takes the time to understand the real-life needs behind your health.
We're deeply humbled by this honor. It reflects the leadership of our Chief Clinical Officer, Natalie Saisi, who drives the day-to-day clinical work that makes recognition like this possible, along with the daily dedication of every provider, nurse, and staff member who serves our community with compassion. As a mission-driven, faith-based community health center, we remain committed to Life-Changing Care for every family who walks through our doors.
What Is the Advancing HIT for Quality Award?
HRSA's Advancing HIT for Quality Award recognizes health centers that use technology to make care safer, more connected, and more personal. To earn it, we showed real, measurable use of health information technology in four areas:
Telehealth. Connect with our providers from home when getting in isn't easy.
Connected records. Your health information shared securely across your care team, so nothing falls through the cracks.
Patient engagement. Easier access to your records, results, and appointments between visits.
Whole-person care. Understanding the real-life needs behind your health, not just a single visit.
Mercy & Truth Secures $225,000 to Complete Its Shawnee Clinic Expansion
Mercy & Truth Healthcare Ministry is grateful to announce $225,000 in new gifts to complete the transformation of our Shawnee location.
Two remarkable partners made this possible. The Deffenbaugh family, with deep roots in Shawnee, gave $100,000. AdventHealth, one of the nation's leading faith-based health systems, gave $125,000. Two very different givers, one shared conviction: our neighbors deserve more care, closer to home.
When the work is finished, our Shawnee clinic will offer nine exam rooms, more providers, and more appointments, with primary care and behavioral health working side by side. For every neighbor, with or without insurance, that means shorter waits and more room to receive Life-Changing Care.
The work is nearly complete, but the need it answers is not. You can join the Deffenbaugh family and AdventHealth in finishing it. Give here.
Free Wellness Hubs in Shawnee.
All summer, we've served as the exclusive host site for Shawnee's Flourishing Neighborhood & Wellness Hubs, opening our clinic for free food from Harvesters, free wellness screenings, and family-friendly fun. Join us for the final event of the season on Wednesday, September 9, from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome, and no appointment is needed.
Record Turnout at Back to School KC.
On Saturday, August 8, our team joined more than 28 Kansas City churches for a metro-wide Back to School celebration at Community Impact Church in Shawnee. We screened a record 24 people and connected several families to ongoing care. Across the metro, the effort welcomed 6,106 people and 1,620 families, giving away 3,768 backpacks and 2,633 bags of food.
A Night at Moonlight Market.
Our Mobile Health Clinic joined thousands of neighbors at Moonlight Market in downtown Shawnee this month, and while we were there we shared humbling news: the Mayor has selected Mercy & Truth for the City of Shawnee Christmas Tree Fund, along with our pharmacy partner, Pharmacy of Grace. Care and prescriptions, supported by the same community. Find us at the next market on September 17.
