Mercy & Truth Medical Missions began in 1995. During a medical missions outreach Cathy Gordon and Heather Jones felt called to begin a medical missions organization in Kansas City. The idea of going out into the world demonstrating God’s love for people, reaching out and serving the poorest of the poor through the delivery of health care seemed unreachable. With prayer and guidance, this vision developed into a reality and Mercy & Truth Medical Missions was born.
Their first clinic opened in Shawnee, Kansas in 2001. It grew and the organization opened a second clinic in Kansas City, KS. In 2018, the Shawnee clinic doubled its space and moved to its current location. The vision continued to grow and Mercy & Truth flourished as each medical mission team traveled to the remotest parts of the world, meeting spiritual needs and promoting health care. Mercy & Truth Medical Missions has sent teams into several countries of the world including Kenya, Malawi, Colombia, Mexico, Russia, China, India, Venezuela, Bolivia, Peru, and Brazil. The teams typically set up a mobile patient clinic to assess patient needs for health care and then provide medicines and treatments. Everyone who comes to the clinic is provided with health care as needed at no cost. In addition, Mercy & Truth teams have also donated medicines and medical supplies to foreign hospitals and clinics as well as lectured in Russian, Chinese and Bolivian Universities. Rapid growth and development of Mercy & Truth over the past few years has steeled the original vision. Networking healthcare professionals has also become a focus of Mercy & Truth. In past years we have hosted a conference in Kansas City, targeting the education of health care professionals in cultural diversity and worldwide healthcare. Topics of the conference include strategies of medical mission teams, cultural and language barriers, medical mission team experiences, cross-cultural promotions, diversity, alternative medicine, and the promotion of serving one another. Making a difference in the lives of many people is a primary part of Mercy & Truth Medical Missions. We believe that God has provided us with the gift of health care to benefit the lives of others. Changing lives through the mercy of health promotion and God’s truth is the vision of Mercy & Truth Medical Missions. In recognition of our 20th anniversary, Mercy and Truth received Tax Credits from the Kansas Department of Commerce. With these community service tax credits, Mercy and Truth raised $1 million to upgrade our main campus in Kansas City Kansas. |
